How do I pay for my music lessons?

Your first month’s lesson fees are payable by Cash, Credit/Debit Card, Cheque or Lesson Voucher which can be purchased from our Head Office (Tel. 01925 577715). Following this, all music lesson fees are payable by monthly Direct Debit and you may choose from three convenient payment dates- the 1st, 10th or 20th of the month. There is no minimum sign-up period so you are never committed to lessons for more than one month at any time.

Can I buy music lessons as a gift?

Should you wish to purchase blocks of lessons, you can pay for as many as 12 month's lesson fees in advance at any time by cash, credit/debit card, or cheque. This method of payment is particularly popular for people wishing to purchase lessons for someone as a gift. For more information about gift vouchers and free advise on the tailor-made gift packs we provide, please contact us.

How long are the lessons? How are they run?

Dependent on your individual requirements, your music lessons will last between 30 and 60 minutes. The majority of classes take place in small, friendly groups and you will learn alongside class mates of a similar age and ability.
Should you wish, parents are able to learn alongside their children, in our very popular Parent & Child classes (age restrictions and charges apply).

Do parents need to attend the classes?

Your child's first lesson is the most important lesson of all. In this session we outline the key foundations for ensuring their musical success and explain your essential role in this process. It is therefore very important that parents attend the first lesson with their child. Following this lesson, we actively encourage all children to attend their lessons without a parent which helps develop your child's independence and confidence. Your child's teacher will keep you updated regularly with their progress and wherever your assistance is required they will discuss how you can help.

Can I take exams?

You bet! Presto has a 99% pass record across all exams and more than 50% of our students regularly walk away with a distinction. This far exceeds the national average of both the London College of Music and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Click here to see past results:

As you can see, Presto’s exam success is unrivalled anywhere in the world and we have been commended by both the London College of Music and Rockschool on many occasions for our extraordinary examination results as a school. There really is no better place to sit your music exams.

"The results attained by Presto Music School candidates greatly exceed the national LCM average. Since January 2005 over half of all candidates entered continually achieve a Distinction. Over 86% achieved a Merit or Distinction in the Spring 2009 session – and the overall Pass rate is 100%. This represents an extraordinary record of achievement and success. Congratulations to all the students and teachers at Presto! It is always a pleasure talking and working with Presto Music".

Student Reports, Tracking and Communication

The A4 sheets attached to the inside front cover of the student's books is their progress tracker. This invaluable document is very similar to that which we use internally to track students progression through the Presto Course systems / Rockschool syllabus. Everything from technical exercises and performance pieces to aural training and theory are covered.

A handful of students are currently transitioning from one module to another so they will be issued with new trackers in the coming weeks.

These documents are a checklist for your teacher to tick off the level of completion of each element within the course.  The version that each student is being given is relevant to the specific level within the syllabus that they are at.

Every student will be able to make great use of these tracking forms, whether they are just 4 years old and playing for fun, through to our Diploma Students and everyone in between. Once the entire form is complete then the student can take either of the following steps:

Please note that Assessments are not intended to take the place of exams, far from it in fact. Assessments help the students with short-term goal setting as they are designed to be taken quarterly (all of which are optional, you could do them annually or not at all should you wish).

As you can imagine, preparing all the material required for an exam can be a challenge in itself, without the added pressure of not being used to a one to one exam environment. Assessments are relaxed, highly supportive events that give us opportunity to sign off significant bodies of work and facilitate the student's true sense of progression through each Grade. This is all done in a modular format, making the comprehensive coverage of each Grade more manageable. As part of the Assessment we issue a detailed written report and a certificate.

Students who are working toward an exam will use their tracker to clearly see exactly what needs to be practiced.  Anything which has been ticked in class requires to be worked on at home. This allows parents and carers to see where their child is up to at any given time. The trackers are often used in conjunction with the books as these sheets will refer you to specific pages/exercises etc.

This whole process is to designed to ensure the following:
